Amazon Alexa now understands Hindi on Fire TV devices
Amazon Alexa on Fire TV devices in India has received support in Hindi. With the latest update, users of Fire TV devices, including the Fire TV Stick, can now ask Alexa questions in Hindi. This is in addition to the existing English language support in Alexa. Amazon has also expanded Alexa Routines to Fire TV devices. This new addition, which is available in India alongside other global markets, allows users to execute multiple actions on smart home devices using the Alexa integration.
You can talk to Amazon Alexa in hindi in your Fire TV devices taking advantage of the new update. According to Amazon, the experience is available to explore Alexa in Hindi for music, personality, smart home, timers and alarms, weather, news, local search, skills, among other features.
However, it is important to note that the update only allows Alexa on Fire TV to understand Hindi commands. The voice assistant does not speak to users in Hindi at this time and still responds to user inquiries in English. This is different from how Amazon Echo The devices support Hindi communication.
Gadgets 360 has contacted Amazon for further clarification on the new experience and will update this space when the company responds.
Fire TV users in India can switch to Hindi by going to Settings > preferences > Language. New users can select Hindi while setting up their new Amazon device.
In September, Amazon Hindi support added to the Alexa app on Android and iOS. The American company also brought Hindi to Amazon Echo devices in September of last year.
Apart from the Hindi language update, Fire TV devices also received the ability to be part of Alexa routines. This allows users to perform multiple actions, such as turning on a Fire TV device at a particular time or controlling a smart home device along with music playback on a Fire TV device.
For example, you can create an Alexa routine so that when you say, “Alexa, I’m going to have a snack,” Alexa will pause the Fire TV content and turn on the smart lights. You can also create a routine and say “I’m back” so Alexa can turn off her smart lights and resume playing content.
Also, you can create an Alexa routine to turn off your Fire TV device and start dimming the smart lights by saying, “Alexa, bedtime.”
Multiple routines can be set up using the Alexa app. Once you go to the Routines settings page in the Alexa app, you will see what Fire TV device control actions can be included in your Routines. You can link your Fire TV device to the Alexa app by going to Settings > TV and video > Fire TV.
Amazon says the new Alexa Routines update is available on all Fire TV devices. However, if you’re on a Fire TV Stick, you’ll need HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control) support on your TV to use a routine to turn it on or off.
