Apple works on entry-level AirPods H1 2021 launch expected: report
Apple is reportedly working on the launch of new entry-level AirPods next year. These new earbuds will be the most affordable in the range and are expected to have the same design as the AirPods Pro. However, high-end features like noise cancellation may be dropped. The tech giant is also working on the second-generation premium AirPods Pro, which may have a more compact design. The new report suggests that the company could also be working on a new smart speaker.
Bloomberg cites people familiar with the matter to report that Apple is working on two AirPods models: an entry-level AirPods and a successor to the AirPods Pro – released last year. The entry-level model is expected to launch in the first half of 2021. The affordable AirPods are reported to have a similar design to the AirPods Pro. These cheaper AirPods may have longer battery life, but may not. high-end features such as noise cancellation are introduced.
The more premium second-generation AirPods Pro are reported to have a more compact design. Apple may be eliminating the short stem at the bottom and having a more rounded design that fills the user’s ear more. The design of the upcoming AirPods Pro may be similar to that of Samsung, Amazon, and Google’s premium headphone offerings. The report does not indicate a release period for the new Pro versions.
The report says that Apple is facing challenges integrating noise cancellation, wireless antennas and microphones into a smaller frame, and the product design is not yet finalized. The Cupertino giant is reportedly looking to build new wireless chips for the next two AirPods models. Luxshare Precision Industry and Goertek are expected to produce the new headphones. As mentioned above, the report adds that Apple may also be deliberating on the launch of a new smart speaker. This smart speaker would sit between the HomePod mini and the original HomePod.
Apart from this, Apple is it is also rumored to work on over-ear headphones called AirPods Studio. The headphones are claimed to feature magnetic earbuds along with a reversible feature that automatically detects the left / right ear to output channeled sound.
