Government bans 43 more ‘Chinese’ apps in India

On Tuesday, the government imposed a new ban on up to 43 mobile apps that have a link to China. These apps include AliExpress, CamCard, and Taobao Live, among others. The latest ban comes nearly three months after the government banned the popular Battle Royale game PUBG Mobile, along with 117 other apps and games that had a link to China. Initially, the government banned 59 Chinese apps that included some of the most famous ones, such as TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, and WeChat.

According to a statement released By the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the government has imposed the ban under the provisions of Section 69A of the Information Technology Action.

“This action was taken on the basis of input relating to these applications to engage in activities that are detrimental to the sovereignty and integrity of India, the defense of India, state security and public order,” the statement said. .

The ministry added that it had issued the order to block access to these apps by users in the country based on “full reports received from the Cybercrime Coordination Center of India, Ministry of the Interior.” However, the government has not provided any particular details about the problems that resulted in the ban on the 43 apps.

At the end of June, the government access blocked to 59 applications that included Tik Tok, Share it, UC browser and WeChat among other popular names. That was followed by another ban on 47 apps they were all mostly clones or just a few different versions of the already banned apps. In early September, the government banned 118 apps and games even PUBG mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite.
