Set up Google Drive backups

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
  3. Select a backup frequency other than Never.
  4. Select the Google account you’d like to back up your chat history to.
  5. Back up over to choose the network you want to use for backups.
    • If you don’t have a Google account connected, tap Add account when prompted and enter your login credentials.

Note: Backing up over a cellular data network might result in additional data charges.

Manually back up to Google Drive.

You can also choose to manually back up your chats to Google Drive at any time.

  1. Open WhatsApp.
  2. Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > BACK UP.

Change the frequency of your Google Drive backup.

  2. Tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Back up to Google Drive.
  3. Select a backup frequency.

Change the account you want to use for backups.

  3. Select the Google account you’d like to back up your chat history to.

Note: If you change your Google account, you’ll lose access to any backups saved in that account.

  3. Select the type of network you want to use for backup.
