WhatsApp Disappearing Messages are now available in India on both Android and iOS. Earlier this month, WhatsApp had officially announced that it will introduce Disappearing Messages, a feature that automatically deletes your WhatsApp messages after a certain period of time. Although this feature was already available in several different apps, it has now come to WhatsApp as well. The new feature is finally rolling out for everyone. The details of the new feature are already there in a Frequently asked questions page created by WhatsApp, and users can now enable this option to delete messages from individual or group chats after seven days. Follow this guide and it will tell you how to enable disappearing messages on WhatsApp.
WhatsApp: how to enable disappearing messages
Before proceeding, make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed on your smartphone. by Android users, that would be version 184.108.40.206 and to iPhone users, that would be the version 220.127.116.11.
Once this is sorted, go ahead and follow these steps to enable disappearing messages on WhatsApp.
- Open a WhatsApp Chat > touch Contact information > scroll down to find the Disappearing messages characteristic.
- The feature is disabled by default. Tap Follow, followed by touching In to enable this function.
- You will need to enable this feature individually for each chat. Once you do, your messages will be automatically deleted after seven days.
You can’t decide the duration before messages disappear in a chat, which means the only option you have now is seven days, at least for now. Competing apps like Telegram give users multiple options to choose from, but WhatsApp has decided to start with a single time setting.
Apart from this, it is also possible to store the disappearing messages before they are deleted, that is, by copying these messages and storing them in a different location. The same applies to media files, you can always take a screenshot and save a photo before it is deleted.
