How to remove sound from WhatsApp videos before uploading

WhatsApp has been adding many useful features recently, and one of them allows you to remove audio from videos before sending them in chats or adding them to WhatsApp status. The feature is currently rolling out to Android. The video mute feature can be useful if you want to share a video on WhatsApp without the audio. Until now, you would have had to rely on third-party apps to edit a video’s audio, but now you can directly use the video mute feature within the app.

How to use WhatsApp video mute feature

  1. First, install the latest version of WhatsApp from Google Play on your Android device. If you can’t find the video mute icon, there’s a chance you haven’t received the feature yet, as WhatsApp is gradually rolling it out to Android.
  2. Open any WhatsApp chat.
  3. Click on the attachment icon at the bottom and touch the camera icon if you want to record a video or touch the gallery icon to select a video.
  4. Now the video will be shown to you on the screen and you can edit it here. Tap on the speaker icon at the top left to remove the sound from the video. Once done, you can share the video without audio on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp has yet to reveal a timeline on when the video mute icon will be available in your iPhone app, so if you have WhatsApp on your iPhone, you will have to wait a while to get this feature. For more tutorials, visit our How section.
