IPhone 12 mini touchscreen is unresponsive inside a case, users report
Early users of the iPhone 12 mini report a problem with the touchscreen from the first day of use. The issue seems to occur only on the lock screen, preventing users from accessing the camera or flashlight, or even just swiping up to unlock the screen. IPhone 12 mini users report that the inability to respond to lock screen taps arises only when you have a case and screen protector, and it is speculated that it could be a conductivity or grounding issue. Apple has yet to acknowledge the problem and there is no clarity on what is causing it or if it can be fixed with a software update.
Apple Forums, Macrumors forums and Reddit are full of user complaints about this touch screen problem on the iPhone 12 mini. The problem only seems to be there on the lock screen, and it arises when the iPhone 12 mini is inside a case and it also has a screen protector. Affected users cannot launch the camera or flashlight on the lock screen, nor can they swipe up to unlock. Touching something conductive like the phone frame or the camera lens frame helps solve it.
Once unlocked, the touchscreen issues go away and the iPhone 12 mini starts running smoothly once again. Apple has yet to acknowledge the problem, and possible solutions include not fitting a screen protector or case. Users report that the problem arises only when both are installed. Furthermore, users also report that the iPhone 12 lock touch screen issue is solved only when connected to a wall charger. Hopefully, Apple it will offer more clarity on the nature of the problem and offer a solution soon.
