IPhone users on iOS 14 have trouble receiving WhatsApp text messages and notifications
IPhone users with iOS 14 or later complain that they do not receive notifications for text messages, iMessages, and even WhatsApp messages in some cases. The problem doesn’t seem to be with a single app or a particular generation of iPhone models. Complaints posted by affected users on online platforms, including Apple’s community forums, suggest that notification issues are affecting nearly all iOS 14-compatible iPhone models.
Several users have complained on Apple’s community forums that they are not receiving notifications for new text messages and iMessages after updating their iPhones to iOS 14. The issue does not appear to be affecting the delivery of new messages, only the notifications. Both the pop-up notifications and the red badge that keeps a count of unread messages appear to be failing for some users. reported The Verge.
The flaw is apparently not limited to just text messages or iMessages, as some users don’t even receive notifications from third-party apps, including WhatsApp and Signal. In some cases, it even affects voice call alerts.
“Now I’m also missing calls and notifications from other applications,” said one of the affected users wrote on the Apple Community Forums.
The notification issues thread, which only started in September, was now 43 pages at the time of submitting this story. Some users have also provided solutions, such as disabling Messages on a connected Mac or force closing the Messages app. However, it seems that these solutions they are not useful for many affected users.
In addition to complaints on Apple Community forums, some users have also taken to Twitter to report Apple about problems.
MacRumors last month reported on notification issues that increasingly affect iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, considering the new complaints raised by various users on different platforms, the problems do not seem to be limited to the iPhone 12 series.
Gadgets 360 has reached out to Apple for clarification on the bug and will update this space when the company responds.
Apple brought iOS 14.2 – and iOS 14.2.1 for the iPhone 12 series, last month. But the update doesn’t seem to have fixed the reported notification issues. In fact, the latest iOS update caused battery discharge problems for some iPhone users.
Apple could fix these issues with iOS 14.3, which will likely debut in the next few days.
