Jio’s Download Speed Slashed By 1.5Mbps In October, TRAI Data Shows
Reliance Jio experienced a 1.5 Mbps drop in its average download speed in October, according to data provided by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). However, the Mumbai-based telecom company maintained its leadership in 4G download speeds by offering up to 17.8 Mbps. This was 95 percent faster than the average 9.1 Mbps download speed offered by Idea, which is placed second in the race. In terms of charge speeds, Jio didn’t show any magic and it resulted in flat growth. It is notable that TRAI continues to count Vodafone and Idea as independent telcos on its MySpeed portal, despite their merger last year.
Latest data available on the MySpeed portal by TRAI shows that Jio continued its leadership in 4G download speeds in October, with an average download speed of 17.8 Mbps. However, this was lower than the 19.1 Mbps speed recorded in September.
Following Jio, Idea maintained its second position with a speed of 9.1Mbps. This was 0.5 Mbps from the 8.6 Mbps download speed reported by the MySpeed portal in September.
TRAI data shows that Vodafone It ranked third with an average download speed of 8.8 Mbps, up from 7.9 Mbps previously. Airtel On the other hand, it maintained an average download speed of 7.5Mbps for two months in a row.
When it comes to upload speeds, the data available on the MySpeed portal shows that Vodafone maintained its first position with a speed of 6.5Mbps recorded in October. This was flat compared to the data published for September.
After Vodafone, Idea came in second with an average upload speed of 5.9 Mbps. This was lower than the 6.4 Mbps speed recorded the previous month.
However, Airtel showed some improvements in its upload speeds with an increase from 0.3Mbps to 3.8Mbps. Jio, on the other hand, held steady with a speed of 3.5 Mbps recorded last month.
TRAI data is based on the download and upload speeds you record through the MySpeed app on a monthly basis.
