LG’s Slide Trademark Suggests a New Name for Your Rollable Smartphone
LG has filed a new trademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) under the name LG Slide. This comes just two days after the South Korean electronics maker filed a trademark for the LG Rollable name. The new development gives way to more speculation about what LG’s next rollable OLED smartphone will finally be called, which is expected to launch in March next year. The highly anticipated smartphone will be the second in LG’s ‘Project Explorer’.
the trademark application presented by LG Corp was the first stained by LetsGoDigital. After LG Corp filed the application, Mitscherlich, the same German company that had submitted the request for the name LG Rollable. The company has also filed trademarks on behalf of LG in the past.
The trademarked applications for LG Slide and LG Rollable have been described as ‘smartphones’ and do not provide further details. Since the smartphone in question is expected to have a roll-up display that can be extended from either side of the phone, it is possible that the phone will eventually be named LG like LG Rollable or LG Slide.
It is also speculated that LG Slide and LG Rollable could become two different smartphones, although the company has not mentioned anything for now. Since it is clear that LG is working on a rollable smartphone that will launch in March 2021, more details are likely to be revealed soon. Until recently, LG’s next rollable smartphone was known as ‘Project B’. According to the same LetsGoDigital report, the company had filed a trademark last year for the LG Roll name. Double Roll, Dual Roll, Bi-Roll, and Roll Canvas were also trade names.
A render had emerged last week, based on a patent that LG had filed for a phone last year with a flexible screen that can be rolled up in its case. LG had also teased the arrival of a device with an extendable screen during the launch of the rotating screen, LG Wing, the first phone of his ‘Project Explorer’.
