Our review noted that the Redmi Note 9 Pro camera delivers decent results most of the time but falls short in some cases, particularly about low-light photography. Download the Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera apk, popularly known as GCam Mod.

Everyone knows how well-tuned Pixel smartphone cameras are, and this Mod brings the Google Camera app to the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Thanks to Google’s image processing engine, GCam Mod automatically increases the performance of the camera of a smartphone. We tested the Google camera mod on the OnePlus 7 Pro and found it very useful. It ensured more accurate colour reproduction, improved details, and better low-light shots. That is why we were eager to install Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera app on the phone.

This article tells you how you can install the GCam Mod on your new Redmi Note 9 Pro and give those rear cameras a much-needed performance boost. The process is quite simple and does not require you to root or unlock your smartphone’s bootloader. Now, remember that this is a community mod that is not officially supported. This is why it has quite a few bugs at the moment, and while we did see an improvement in image quality on the Redmi Note 9 Pro with Google’s camera model, some camera modes did not work in our tests. We will keep updating this article with newer versions of Google Camera for Redmi Note 9 Pro and update our thoughts on the performance of each new version.

We have used version 7.3.018 of the Google Camera mod on our Redmi Note 9 Pro. Note that, unlike previous GCam mods, this version does not require a configuration file. With that out of the way, follow these steps to install GCam Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera apk first impressions

The latest Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera features 24FPS video recording, Frequent Faces to help you capture Top Shot photos and touch and hold the shortcut on the shutter button to capture Top Shot photos, among Other features. Here are our first impressions.

After installing Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera, we noticed that by default, only the primary camera is active. If you want to use other lenses such as telephoto or wide-angle lens, you will need to go to camera settings. To do that, tap the down arrow icon at the top of the screen and tap the Settings icon > Advanced > Auxiliary camera > activate Show buttons.

However, the other lenses did not work well in our case, and then switch to the wide-angle camera caused the app to crash. With 2x zoom, the app switches to the depth camera as there is no telephoto lens. Ideally, it would help if you only zoomed digitally. We were also unable to use the macro camera as there is no setting to enable this lens. Although GCam supports HDR + photography, you will need to activate it manually by going to Settings > Advanced > Pixel AWB in HDR + and turning it on.

In terms of results, when shooting still photos, the details turned out to be slightly better, and the colours were more natural when shooting with the primary camera, compared to the standard camera app. However, the app still has its limitations and is not very stable, so we recommend relying on this alone for all your camera needs. If you want to experiment with some of the features found on Pixel phones, then give it a try. Also, if you have already been using an older version in GCam, be sure to clear your data and uninstall it before installing the newer version.

We were eager to try Night Sight mode for low light photos and astrophotography, but the app crashed. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera mod is still in beta, and we can’t wait to see this app work its magic when these bugs have been fixed.

Limitations of GCam Mod on Redmi Note 9 Pro:

  • In the Redmi Note 9 Pro Google Camera Video recording May not work on the secondary cameras. Only works on the primary camera.
  • Video stabilisation and slow motion might be beneficial on the stock camera.
  • This device uses quad-bayer sensors on some of the cameras, so pixel binning is used. If the primary camera is 64MP, GCam’s picture will be 16MP (64 divided by 4). If it’s 48MP, the image will be 12MP.
