Welcome Baby Yoda into your home with the Mandalorian AR experience
The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda return home. Not in the current second season of the Star Wars series, but on your phone. Google and Lucasfilm have partnered to launch The Mandalorian AR Experience, an augmented reality application that will allow you to recreate moments from the first season, while Mando (Pedro Pascal) continues his bounty hunting path, finds Baby Yoda: the boy, if we’re being pedantic, then the two of us embark on planet-hopping adventures across the galaxy far, far away. You will be able to interact with the iconic duo, use the Force, and discover hidden characteristics.
Unfortunately, The Mandalorian AR Experience is only available in a very select list of 5G phones, including Pixel 4a, LG Wing, Motorola Edge +, Moto Razr 5G, OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, OnePlus 8 series, Oppo Find X2, Samsung Galaxy Note20 +, Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. The first experience, “Bounty Hunt”, and more experiences will launch weekly on Command Mondays (a global marketing promotion that sees new product launches). Pixel owners will also get bonus content outside of The Mandalorian AR Experience.
If your device isn’t on that list, Google says support for more 5G Android phones is on the way. It’s unclear why Google is emphasizing the need for next-gen cellular technology for The Mandalorian AR Experience, though it’s likely due to the demands of the app. The Mandalorian AR experience consists of “hyper-detailed models and realistic animations,” says Google, which have been made with the help of ARCore, Google’s platform for augmented reality experiences. ARCore’s Depth API enables occlusion and helps Mando and Baby Yoda “blend in more naturally with our world.”
The Mandalorian AR Experience is now available at Google play all over the world. Good hunting.
